The 1985 Chicago Bears of Super Bowl XX had gained fame as well as notoriety that Super Bowl year. Mike Ditka was the head coach and led the team to a 15-1 victory in the regular season. The Super Bowl XX Chicago Bears boasted a strong defense called the “46 Zone” which allowed them to lead the league in fewest points and total yards allowed, while the strong running game let Chicago lead the league in rushing yards and touchdowns. The New England Patriots were considered the Cinderella team of the season, since many sports fans thought they lucked out in their AFC championship victory. Some of their notable team names included Steve Grogan, Stanley Morgan and Irving Fryar.

Superbowl 20 stats show that the Bears clobbered the New England Patriots 46 to 10. The Bears also set Super Bowl records up until that point for 7 sacks, fewest rushing yards allowed and total point margin. The New England Patriots were held back to negative yardage and ended the game with just 123 yards total, the second lowest in Super Bowl history. The most valuable player winner was Bears defensive end Richard Dent who forced 2 fumbles, blocked a pass and had 1.5 quarterback sacks. The Super Bowl 20 teams Bears and Patriots garnered the third highest Nielsen rating in Super Bowl history until that point with 48.3 million people.

Other Super Bowl XX Memorable Moments

To celebrate Super Bowl XX, the unofficial holiday's 20th year, previous winners of the MVP Award were invited to take part in the pre-game festivities. Wynton Marsalis performed the national anthem while Bart Starr, of Super Bowl I and II fame, tossed the coin. The half time show featured the performance group Up With People performing “Beat Of The Future”, one of four total Super Bowl performances.

Super Bowl XX will be remembered as the year of the Chicago Bears.
