Super Bowl Logo

The Super Bowl logo has had quite a history since the beginning of Super Bowl Sunday back on January 15, 1967. Back then, though there was a Super Bowl logo of sorts designed (or at least a graphic), the banner was not officially a Super Bowl logo. It was simply a sign reading “First World Championship Game – AFL Vs. NFL.” Indeed, for decades the National Football League had been dominating professional football. The AFL was a competitor, the third of “AFL” organizations to rival the NFL, and one that was finally becoming a serious threat to the NFL league. The merger between the AFL and NFL was a shaky deal all the way, but with the overwhelming success of the first four Super Bowls (later named Super Bowl for lack of a better title) the Super Bowl became a bona fide piece of American culture.

The Super Bowl Logo

The Super Bowl logo has been specially designed for each Super Bowl event for the last 41 years. Most Super Bowl logos are available for viewing online from sports websites as well as online encyclopedia. Artistically speaking, each Superbowl logo features text and a graphical design that seems to complement the theme of the Super Bowl for that year, usually cities that the Super Bowl is being held in, or a special theme featuring a nationwide tribute. For example in 2002 there were two Superbowl logos designed. The first design was to highlight New Orleans. However, after the 9/11 attacks the Super Bowl logo was redesigned in colors and images of American patriotism. Another popular design was the Super Bowl 2006 logo featuring bold colors of red and blue and large text that seemed to complement Detroit, Michigan, the location of the game.

What about the Super Bowl 2007 logo? The Super Bowl XXXXI logo was a logo featuring colors of orange and white, with a blue football in kicking position. This logo would soon be part of the winning Colts Super Bowl logo, as Indianapolis defeated Seattle 29 to 17.
