Super Bowl History

Do you know your Super Bowl history? If only your teacher would grade you on the stuff that really mattered! What team won Superbowl XXXVI? What is the complete Super Bowl MVP history for the Dallas Cowboys? What is the Superbowl history of the coin toss? Best of all, what is the longest drive in Superbowl history? I know that one, Alex!

History Of The Super Bowl

But how much do you know about early Super Bowl history, including the first organizing of the game and the year that Super Bowl history started being recorded? American football history actually traces back to ancient times, when great ancestors of NFL greats tossed around rocks, animal parts and heads in mostly disorganized competitions. As far as modern football goes, the sport still uses similar goals and techniques that were first introduced in soccer and rugby. As American football evolved, more regulations were added to distance the game from rugby and soccer, and to better ensure the safety of the players.

Super Bowl history traces back to the origins of the National Football League, first created in 1920, as well as the American Football League founded in 1959. Super Bowl history officially began in 1967 as an agreement between the NFL and the AFL, in which both leagues would send their championship team to play each other in an “AFL-NFL World Championship Game.” Even after the leagues merged, the NFL kept Superbowl history going with its own championship games. Ever since 1967, the history of Superbowl has been identified with Roman numerals to identify each game by year. This is done because organizing annual games by year would be confusing since NFL seasons go beyond New Year's Eve in season.

History Of Super Bowl Commercials

The history of Super Bowl advertising, as opposed to the history of the Superbowl, is an entirely different story. A history of Superbowl commercials was due to the fact that televised games were bringing in phenomenal ratings. Even today, over 90 million viewers tune into the games, making high-profile advertisements that easily sell for two million dollars. What's interesting is that these advertisements, notoriously over priced and increasingly creative, have a history of Super Bowl commercials all their own. The day after the game (the winner usually not a surprise) the nation seems to be talking about the commercials and critiquing their quality.

What many don't realize about the the history of the Superbowl advertisements is that ads for American companies are usually only seen on the American television network. Viewers that see the show in their own country will only see regional ads, which do not have the same reputation or merit the same price.
